Juvenile Broomballers Compete at 2007 Nationals

Submitted by Raymond Massinon

This year’s Juvenile Nationals held in Balgonie and Odessa Saskatchewan, east of Regina, featured some of the best broomball ever to be played at this level. Seventeen teams from the prairies and Eastern Canada participated at the prestigious event. The young ladies’ draw consisted of 7 teams, while the boys division had ten.

Raymond Massinon, with the assistant coach, Stacey Lazor, took charge leading the ladies into competition. With only eleven players on their roster, the young athletes performed well against Canada’s best. Kayla Henton, netminder for Manitoba, was selected as the most valuable goaltender in Canada at the championships. This young group of athletes will certainly be a threatening force in a few short years.

The Manitoba All Stars boy consisted of 12 rookies, and 3 veterans coached by Patrick Massinon. As the tournament progressed the rookies gained confidence and improved their play tremendously. Another young team which will improve and mature over the next few years challenging teams at future Nationals for championship titles.
